Anne (Anouk Aimee) and Jean (Jean-Louis Trintignant) were once a deeply in-love couple, but fate dealt them a cruel hand, and their love ultimately could not bear fruit, leading to their separation. Fifty years have passed in the blink of an eye, and the now-elderly Jean suffers from Alzheimer's disease, with severe symptoms preventing him from even recognizing his own daughter. The only person his muddled mind remembers is Anne. To alleviate his father's condition, Jean's son Antoine (Antoine Sire) seeks out Anne, hoping she will visit and ease his father's longing. Little did he know that Anne also struggles to let go of their past romance, and when they meet again, the suppressed feelings they've carried for years come roaring back.
