"Coach Carter," also known as "The Tough Coach" and "The Winter of the Bullpen," is based on the true story of high school basketball coach Ken Carter. The Richmond High School basketball team had never won any games and was a team that faced constant defeat. This changed when Coach Carter (played by Samuel L. Jackson) took over. He believed that under his leadership, the team could become the best basketball team. Therefore, he required the players to sign an agreement stating that if the team did not stay united or performed poorly, they would no longer participate in any games. Under his guidance, the team began to improve and ultimately became unbeatable. However, during the national championships held in 1999, the players' performance was disappointing, leaving Coach Carter frustrated. He actually closed the gym and banned the team from continuing to participate in any games. This move sparked significant controversy, making him the center of public discussion. Some praised his commitment to basketball as a way of life, while many others expressed confusion and criticism over his actions.
