Marie (Hanna Schygulla) falls in love with a man named Erich, but Erich only cares about money. To make money, Erich even encourages Marie to become a prostitute. Paul (Rudolf Waldemar Brem) spends a romantic night with Helga, but Paul only sees it as a transaction. However, Helga becomes pregnant, and Paul, feeling cornered, has no choice but to marry her. Rosie (Elga Sorbas) longs to become an actress, but she is still far from her dream. To survive, Rosie has to sell her body for meager money. These people all live in the house of Elisabeth (Irm Hermann), a cold and ruthless woman.
