11-year-old boy Cyril (played by Thomas Doret) is sent to a children's welfare institution after his father Guy (played by Jérémie Renier) abandons him. Cyril desperately wants to see his father, so he tries every way to escape the supervisor's watch and causes a commotion. He arrives at the house previously rented by his father only to find it locked, and is chased away by the neighbors. He is taken back to the welfare institution by the supervisor but begins to search for the bicycle his father had bought him at that time. Later, the kind-hearted barber Samantha (played by Cécile De France) helps Cyril buy back the bicycle that Guy had sold. He rides the bicycle and continues searching for his father. Samantha, feeling compassion, helps him get in touch with Guy. The father and son finally reunite; it turns out that after Cyril's mother left home, Guy felt unable to raise Cyril, and to start a new life in his restaurant, he hoped Samantha could take care of Cyril. However, Cyril feels the pain of being abandoned by Guy and desperately protects his bicycle, even leading him to meet a group of underage drug dealers, teetering on the edge of crime...
