The story follows Marcellus (played by Richard Burton), a tribune in the Roman Empire. The Roman authorities accuse Jesus Christ of misleading the people, capturing and condemning him to be crucified. Under the orders of his superiors, Marcellus is tasked with overseeing and executing this mission. During a gambling game, Marcellus wins a red robe that Jesus once wore. After that, he becomes entranced, waking up each night tormented by nightmares and delusions. However, under the call of an oracle, Marcellus realizes that the curse of the robe, which he fears day and night, actually stems from within himself. Ultimately, Marcellus chooses to obey the voice of his heart, following the God within him, even if it leads to his death without hesitation. This film won the Best Motion Picture - Drama at the 11th Golden Globe Awards in 1954 and received two Oscars for Best Art Direction (Color) and Best Costume Design (Color), along with nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography.
