On June 5, 1967, Israel launched a surprise attack on neighboring Arab countries, initiating the Third Middle Eastern War and achieving victory within six days. After Egypt announced its defeat, several water- and food-deprived Egyptian soldiers attempted to cross the Israeli-occupied Sinai Desert to reach Suez and return to a peaceful area. This film is the debut work of the relatively unknown Israeli director Rafi Bukai, who presents this "humanitarian, anti-war, and politically neutral" piece from the perspective of a few Egyptian soldiers. The film won an award at the 1986 Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland and represented Israel in the race for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film the same year. (by 54f8in)
