The proud young woman Cao Li (played by Qin Hailu) originally wanted to explore the outside world and worked her way from Shenzhen to the glamorous metropolis of Shanghai. Having left her hometown, Cao Li strives to escape her failed marriage and business endeavors. However, she still finds herself living at the bottom of society. She shares a cramped room of less than two square meters with middle-aged woman Xie Qin (played by Tang Qun) and works tirelessly every day to make ends meet. A fellow villager, Dog Ge, tricks her into joining him to sell return tickets to Fuyang, enticing twenty-eight women to ride home. Although Fuyang is only six hundred miles from Shanghai, she still does not dare to take the journey back. This low-budget film "To Fuyang Six Hundred Miles," completed in just 18 days, weaves a tale of warmth amidst deception through a seemingly destined series of kind-hearted scams.
