Synopsis: In the late 19th century in Australia, in a mountainous area far from towns, a young man named Jim and his father make a living raising horses. Like other boys, Jim has loved horses since childhood, dreaming of becoming a hero who could ride a noble steed. A group of purebred wild horses often roams the woods near Jim's home, and many horse lovers have attempted to capture them for taming, but all have failed. One day, the wild horse herd attacks Jim's father’s woods, and Jim convinces his father to try to block the horses, but his father is tragically injured and dies when the horses trample him. A longtime friend of his father, Spur, gives the despondent Jim a fine horse to help him find work in the plains below. Soon, Jim finds a job at the ranch of Harrison, but others look down on him because he is from the mountains. However, Harrison's daughter, Jessica, takes a liking to the capable and kind Jim. One day, with Harrison away, Jim stays behind to accompany Jessica. Jessica encourages Jim to help her tame the prized pony worth one thousand pounds that her father cherishes. Just then, the wild horses strike again, and Jim gets injured. When Harrison returns home and discovers the pony has been touched, he becomes furious and kicks Jim off the farm, causing Jessica to run away in anger. Jim finds Jessica in the mountains and asks Spur to take her back home. At Spur's house, Jessica unexpectedly discovers a photo of her mother, Matilda. It turns out Spur is Harrison's brother, and twenty years ago, they both fell in love with the most beautiful girl in town, Matilda. Faced with the decision, Matilda decided to marry whoever made a fortune first, never expecting her choice would lead to huge harm later. Harrison chose to gamble everything on a horse race, potentially risking his life, while Spur chose to dig for gold in a dark and hazardous mine. In the end, Matilda married Harrison. Twenty years later, Harrison has become a profit-driven businessman, while Spur still hasn't given up on mining for gold. The brothers have become foes after Matilda's unfortunate death. At this time, Harrison is offering a huge reward to rally all the good riders in town to find the pony. Out of animosity towards Spur, he refuses to let Jim join them. However, when the wild horse herd runs toward a steep cliff, even the most experienced riders have to pull up their reins and watch helplessly as the herd disappears into the woods. Only Jim rides ahead on horseback, leaping down the cliff. Harrison and the others can only stand there in horror as they watch him go. Ultimately, Jim not only retrieves the pony but also herds the wild horses back. Thus, this man from Snowy River becomes a true hero in the hearts of the people.
