Plot: The film initially focuses on four Black athletes overcoming numerous challenges to take their first steps towards the Winter Olympics. The latter half follows the familiar inspirational pattern. For the Jamaican athletes who have never experienced temperatures as low as minus twenty-five degrees Celsius, they face adverse conditions such as weather, geography, and people, while also enduring ridicule and contempt from domestic and international audiences. How, then, do audiences witness these athletes awaken their indomitable spirit and courageously pursue their goals? Three talented Jamaican sprinters tragically fall simultaneously during the Olympic qualifiers, shattering the dreams of the other three. However, one of them, Dwayne, resolves to participate in the unprecedented bobsled competition and enlists the help of his cheerful and humorous friend Sanka, while the washed-up former champion, Irv, takes on the role of coach, forming Jamaica's first bobsled team. This film is rich in comedic elements. Behind the humorous situations of the four raising funds, their training process, and dealing with climate differences emerges an uplifting message that is worth supporting.
Review: This film is based on a true story, recounting a legendary moment in Olympic history. In 1988, four athletes from Jamaica managed to compete in the Winter Olympics through sheer willpower, achieving remarkable results in the bobsled event while earning the support and encouragement of athletes from various countries. At first glance, adapting such historical facts for the screen seems to fit the mold of an inspirational film, but what audiences might not expect is the film's light and humorous filmmaking style, filled with comedic elements, and the cast’s ability to deliver comedic effects, greatly enhancing the film's appeal.
