When a mining disaster strikes a small coal town at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains, three distinctly different locals find themselves inexplicably drawn into a complex web of secrets. Amos Jenkins, the only survivor of the disaster, becomes the focal point of the investigation. As more and more questions arise regarding who is responsible for this calamity, the son of a senior coal executive goes missing. The child's mother, Diane, and her husband, Bill, search in vain, leading to a rift between them.
