On a rainy day in April of the late 16th century, in a nondescript residence in Kyoto, the life of a renowned figure was nearing its end. The owner of the house is the world-respected tea ceremony master Sen no Rikyū (played by Ichikawa Ebizō). Reflecting on the past, he recalls how, during the tumultuous Warring States period, he gained the favor of Oda Nobunaga (played by Iseya Yusuke) and used his influence to help the desperate Toyotomi Hideyoshi (played by Ōmori Naoe). However, as Hideyoshi became the new generation's tyrant, he began to grow increasingly dissatisfied with Rikyū's uncompromising pursuit of beauty and disdain for power. What was not destined to intersect resulted in widening rifts between the two, seemingly fated to lead to Rikyū's tragedy. As his life wanes, Rikyū, accompanied by his wife, Zōen (played by Nakatani Miki), reminisces about the past, including a deeply impactful love affair from his youth that shaped his destiny...
