At the end of World War II, Germany's anti-Jewish policies were still being firmly enforced. The Jewish child Bonnet (played by Raphael Fejtö) from Marseille lost his family and was sent to a school in France. There, he carefully kept his secret, but often faced teasing from classmates due to being new, including from Julian (played by Gaspard Manesse), who came from a wealthy French family. Julian and Bonnet became roommates, and during their time together, Julian discovered that this frequently bullied boy shared similar interests with him.
