Harvey Milk, a gay politician hailed by Time magazine as one of the 20th century's most significant figures. In 1970, Sean Penn plays Milk, a small businessman who has achieved success in his career but faced challenges in his romantic life, who serendipitously meets the young and handsome Scott Smith (James Franco). The two quickly fall in love, and Milk begins to realize his true sexual orientation. Soon, they move to Castro Street in San Francisco and co-run a photography shop. As their relationship becomes public, the small store gradually turns into a gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community, eventually expanding to encompass the entire neighborhood. However, at that time, homosexuality was still not accepted by the public, and they faced various unfair treatments. Affected by this, Milk resolves to enter politics, running for city supervisor to advocate for better conditions for gay people. After many failed attempts, Milk eventually achieves success but also faces criticism and attacks from conservative forces... The film won the 2009 Oscar for Best Actor (Sean Penn) and Best Screenplay, as well as the 2009 Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (James Franco).
