"The Big Puppet of Son": Unemployed youth Kunsu (played by Chen Bozheng) in a town works as a "sandwich advertiser" for a cinema to support his family. He dresses up as a clown with thick advertisement boards hanging from him, but he does not gain the recognition of his family and friends, leading to constant disputes. When Kunsu removes his clown makeup, his young son doesn't recognize him and gets frightened and starts to cry... "Xiao Qi's Hat": Wang Wuxiong (played by Jin Ding) finds a job as a salesman after being discharged from the military. The company sends him to coastal towns to sell pressure cookers produced in Japan, where he encounters a little girl named Xiao Qi. However, Wang Wuxiong is puzzled by Xiao Qi's habit of tightly wearing her hat, which he finds very strange.
