Michael (Liam Neeson), Harry (Aidan Quinn), and Eamon (Alan Rickman) are close brothers who formed the Irish Volunteer Army together. Their powerful combat strength and unwavering will instill fear in the British Empire. During a speech, Michael encounters a woman named Katie (Julia Roberts), whose striking presence and formidable spirit deeply attract both him and Harry, causing a rift in their friendship. Meanwhile, Eamon takes Harry to America to seek more support for their army. Upon their return to Ireland, they discover that Michael has incited a revolutionary climax. The British agree to sign a ceasefire with Ireland and acknowledge its independence, but only on the condition that Ireland must pledge loyalty to the Crown, which clearly goes against Eamon's original intention.
