Growing up in a rural area, the high-IQ Lee Ji-sook (played by Park Jin-hee) has unhappy childhood memories. In her recollections, her disabled father is an alcoholic who becomes violent towards her mother (played by Kim Hae-sook) when drunk. Little did her mother expect that Ji-sook, who was deemed unlikely to succeed in life, would grow up to become a writer and even marry in the big city of Seoul. Thus, the mother and daughter begin the longest separation of their lives. Five years have passed in the blink of an eye, and Ji-sook has also become a mother. It is only now that she realizes how much effort her mother put into raising her. In order to fulfill her filial duty, Ji-sook rushes back to her long-lost hometown without saying a word.
