In order to save their daughter Kate (played by Sofia Vassilieva), who is suffering from leukemia, her parents use genetic technology to create a perfect match in their younger daughter Anna (played by Abigail Breslin). Anna feels like nothing more than a "drug reservoir" for her sister Kate; for 11 years, she has been providing everything Kate needs, be it cord blood, white blood cells, liver cells, or bone marrow. However, despite the desperate efforts of their mother (played by Cameron Diaz), the helpless father, and the love of everyone around them, Kate's condition continues to deteriorate, and her failing kidney function requires Anna, who is only 11, to donate one of her kidneys. This time, Anna chooses to refuse and seeks out lawyer Campbell to take her mother to court, as she wants to defend her own body. However, in court, her brother Jesse reveals a different truth… This film is adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name by American contemporary author Jodi Picoult.
