A video went viral, featuring a man and a woman engaged in sexual acts while wearing masks. However, the woman was still recognized. Worse yet, she is a teacher who should be a role model. Moreover, this is taking place in a post-socialist society, soon to be lost in a discourse of social networks that includes attitudes of curing obsessive cleanliness, pseudo-political jack-of-all-trades, sacred chauvinism, and grotesque conspiracy theories. Everyone has their own opinions. The debate turns into a courtroom regarding consensual sex, pornography, and more. Radu Jude, as always committed to innovative cinematic experiments, meticulously crafted a clever and ironic triptych in this work: the first part focuses with leisurely precise shots on the mad humor of everyday life on the streets of Bucharest, showcasing what contemporary cinema at the documentary-fiction interface looks like. The second part consists of a series of unremarkable still images, intended to serve as an encyclopedia of symbols of our time. The film's finale (though open-ended) is a discussion held at a school, making a judgment on the reasons for the protagonist’s existence.
