A contemporary filmmaker and a 19th-century French diplomat (played by Sergei Dontsov) find themselves in an ancient palace in St. Petersburg, invisible to those around them. The two wander through the palace, witnessing the furious Peter the Great whipping his generals; the private life of Catherine the Great; the last dinner of the last Tsar's family on the eve of the revolution; and the last grand court ball in 1913. In just 100 minutes, they experience over 200 years of Russian history...
