Wei Ping'an (played by Dong Chengpeng), a middle-aged man, has lived a life of hardship and is penniless. He was imprisoned for standing up for a friend years ago, and his wife remarried another man, taking their daughter with her. Now, he works as a cemetery salesman; although in financial difficulties, he remains optimistic.
