Kanzaki Koji (played by Masato Sakai), a kind-hearted man who truly loves animals, works at the Igarashi Stray Dog Shelter. Previously, he was employed at a zoo where he married his wife Chika (played by Rie Tanaka) and they had a pair of lovely children. After his wife's passing, Koji transitioned to the shelter, striving to help as many dogs as possible find new owners, yet he still helplessly presses the button to end the lives of dogs time and again. The sorrow in his heart during these moments is unimaginable. One day, Koji and his colleagues encounter a fierce mother dog with puppies. The mother is fiercely protective and will do anything to safeguard her young. Despite pressure from his supervisor, Koji is determined not to harm the mother and her pups. He goes to great lengths to extend their stay at the shelter and tirelessly contacts potential new owners, gradually building trust with the mother dog in the process. However, the final moment will inevitably arrive... This film is based on true events that took place in Miyazaki Prefecture.
