Maggie (Kristen Wiig) and Milo (Bill Hader) are twin siblings, but their relationship is extremely distant; they haven't seen or talked to each other in many years. Despite being in different places, their lives are equally unhappy—Maggie thought her marriage was exemplary, but suddenly, she realizes she and her husband have become strangers.
