The case is shrouded in mystery, and in desperation, Chief Honga (played by Akira Shirai) orders the retired detective Furuhata Ninzaburo (played by Masakazu Tamura) to take on the case. This sets the stage for the classic reunion of Furuhata, Imaizumi (played by Masahiko Nishimura), and Mukojima (played by Takashi Kobayashi). While Saionji and Imaizumi are still guessing the commonality among the victims, Furuhata has already keenly focused his attention on the coroner Dr. Kuroiwa Kengo (played by Ken Ogata).
