Ambrose (Vincent Cassel) is a very devout monk who has long vowed to surrender his body and soul entirely to God. Harsh and strict, he has his own unique interpretation of the doctrines, believing that every day humanity desecrates the existence of God. Martina deeply admires Ambrose, and her obedience and submission awaken the beastly desires hidden within him. Once ignited, these desires become uncontrollable, leading Ambrose step by step toward the abyss. Antonia (Joséphine Japy) is a girl who often visits the monastery to pray for her mother, and her purity attracts Ambrose's attention. To possess her body, he schematically orchestrates the murder of her mother. Ultimately, a noble youth discovers Ambrose's various crimes.
