"The World of Jacques Demy" is Agnès Varda's love and remembrance of her husband Jacques Demy, as well as a wonderful lesson in French film history. Agnès Varda made a total of three films focusing on Jacques Demy. In 1990, when Jacques Demy was nearing death from illness, Varda revisited and shared his childhood—memories she could not participate in during his life. After Demy's passing, Varda comprehensively portrayed his cinematic world in a documentary format. The film includes archival interview footage, behind-the-scenes material, remembrances from collaborators, actors, and fans, as well as precious historical snippets, such as iconic footage of Jim Morrison visiting the set of "Donkey Skin."
