André (played by Jacques Dutronc) and his wife Lisbeth take their son Guillaume (played by Rodolphe Pauly) to Paris. Due to financial difficulties, the family temporarily stays at the home of their friend Mika (played by Isabelle Huppert), who warmly welcomes the three of them. One day, Lisbeth drives to a party and tragically dies in a car accident. The forensic examination reveals that Lisbeth had taken a large amount of sleeping pills on the night of the accident, casting a shadow of doubt in Guillaume's mind, as he suspects his mother's death was not an accident. After many years, André has become a world-renowned pianist, and Mika has become Guillaume's stepmother. One day, a girl named Jeanne (played by Anna Mouglalis) seeks André out to become his apprentice. In reality, Jeanne has long suspected that she is André's long-lost daughter.
