In 1918, Matsuura lived in a fishing village on the coast of Toyama with her husband and three children. The men in the village left home to go fishing, while the wives stayed behind, consuming large amounts of rice daily to support their families. Matsuura's daily task was to drag bags of rice to the shore. As Japan sent troops to Siberia, the price of rice began to soar. The women gathered to petition the rice shops for cheaper prices and tried to stop merchants from shipping rice away, but all efforts ended in failure. After local reporters covered the story, it quickly spread to media across the nation, and the unrest grew. Eventually, the women reached their breaking point and decided to take further action. This film is based on real events from the Taisho era in Japan, depicting an unprecedented "Rice Riot" initiated by women.
