Amity Island is a tourist resort, attracting a large number of visitors who come to swim. However, the appearance of a great white shark changes everything. The incident begins with a couple who go swimming, and the woman tragically becomes the first victim, her mangled body a horrific sight. Local officials are reluctant to close the beach for an investigation, fearing it will impact tourism revenue, and thus they bring in biologist Matt Hooper (played by Richard Dreyfuss). Hooper determines that this is an unusually large great white shark. His warnings are not taken seriously enough by the authorities, and soon more lives are lost, escalating the situation even further. A skilled fisherman, a policeman, and Hooper—three men—decide to hunt down the great white shark, leading to a dangerous battle. Who will emerge victorious? What price must be paid to win this fight?
