May (Xu Xincheng) and August (Qiu Lier) are two sisters who share a very close bond, having grown up in a warm family, living a happy and fulfilling life. The arrival of war instantly shatters their family; their father dies, leaving the entire household to be supported by their strong mother (Ye Tong). Trouble doesn't come alone; August falls ill with a high fever, and their mother risks her life to find medicine on the streets blocked by the Japanese army, but sadly sacrifices herself. May, who narrowly escapes, brings her sister to a refugee camp established by a church. Life in the refugee camp is harsh and filled with danger, but finally, May and August await the arrival of their relatives. Following their uncle, the sisters arrive in Zhenjiang and meet a boy named Fang Yi (Xue Bin) who shares a similar fate. Soon, Zhenjiang also falls, and will May and August be able to escape from the perilous situation once again?
