Napoleon (played by Jon Heder), a high school student from Princeton, Idaho, is a loser who wears thick glasses, isn't cool or handsome, and is always quirky. He lives with his grandmother and his unemployed brother Kip. He is not well-liked by his classmates and often gets in trouble with teachers. Outcast and lonely, he just kicks a tetherball by himself. Later, he befriends a classmate, Pedro (played by Efren Ramirez). When Pedro runs for student body president, Napoleon contributes his support. One day, while lounging at home, Napoleon is visited by a girl named Deb (played by Tina Majorino) who is selling door-to-door. He develops a crush on her but lacks the courage to pursue her, resorting to clumsy ideas that often end badly. Kip becomes fascinated with a home shopping channel and drags Napoleon to a self-defense class, only to be disappointed...
