Unable to adapt to school life, the girl Xiaowu (played by Takahashi Mayu) refuses to go to school. To help her relax, her mother sends her to her grandmother's house. Xiaowu's grandmother (played by Sachi Parker) is a kind English lady with witch lineage, knowledgeable about plants and capable of predicting the future. Xiaowu greatly admires her grandmother and hopes she can be her mentor, teaching her how to become a witch. Thus, Xiaowu begins her life training alongside her grandmother. However, to Xiaowu's surprise, the "lessons" arranged by her grandmother consist solely of going to bed early, waking up early, exercising, and living a regulated life. Each day, they freely play in the woods, working during sunrise and resting at sunset. Her grandmother also tells Xiaowu to steadfastly follow her heart. After this rejuvenating experience, Xiaowu returns to school. When she sees her grandmother again, her grandmother finally teaches her the last lesson—death.
