A junior employee at a jewelry company, Watanabe (played by Masahiro Motoki), takes on the task of traveling to Yunnan, China, to search for jade mines due to a colleague's hospitalization. He is accompanied by a translator, Mr. Shen (played by Mako Iwamatsu), and a gangster boss, Ushiie (played by Renji Ishibashi). Ushiie has a rough personality and a bad temper, living a life on the edge, and is sent by his organization to supervise Watanabe's work. This strange trio journeys to Yunnan, encountering many peculiar characters and stories along the way. Upon reaching the deep mountains, they discover a legendary tribe of birdmen. The ancestors of this birdman tribe seemed to have the ability to soar with the winds, a legend that has long been forgotten...
