The sweet-looking high school girl Kudo Sayaka (played by Kasumi Arimura) is not favored by her father at home, who is focused on nurturing her brother to become a baseball player while neglecting his daughters. Sayaka's high school has an internal advancement system, so she spends her days enjoying life with her friends, completely unconcerned about being at the bottom of her class. Her gentle and hardworking mother (played by Yo Yoshida) is often called in by the school to be lectured, deeply anxious about her daughter's future. As a result, she sends Sayaka to a tutoring class run by Tsubota (played by Junichi Ito). After taking a placement test, it turns out that Sayaka is only at a fourth-grade level, but the cheerful and confident Tsubota is not bothered by this. He opens up the girl’s heart in his unique way, and they quickly become good friends. With Tsubota's help, Sayaka gradually develops a strong attitude towards studying, and later sets her sights on entering Keio University. This is the true story of a swan's transformation from an ugly duckling... The film is based on the story "The Bottom-Tier Girl's Improvement of 40 Points in One Year and Admission to Keio University," which is inspired by real events and written by Tsubota Nobutaka, who served as the private tutor of the film's protagonist, Kudo Sayaka.
