In the 1980s, three passionate and dream-filled young men met on the campus of Yenching University, embarking on a thirty-year journey of friendship and dreams. Meng Xiaojun (played by Deng Chao), born into a family of overseas students, longs to change the world on American soil. The romantic and free-spirited Wang Yang (played by Tong Dawei) fully enjoys the vibrant youth atmosphere during the early days of reform and opening up. Cheng Dongqing (played by Huang Xiaoming), a rural youth who failed the college entrance examination twice, works hard in his studies with Xiaojun as his goal and eventually finds beautiful love. However, only Xiaojun ultimately obtains a U.S. visa, leaving Dongqing and Wang Yang deeply disheartened by the stark reality versus their dreams. By chance, after being dismissed from his government job, Dongqing, with Wang Yang's help, starts an English training school and begins to taste the joy of success. Xiaojun struggles in the U.S. and returns home, joining the school, undoubtedly pushing the three friends a significant step closer to their dreams. Yet, as success arrives, their friendship begins to endure severe trials...
