The dreamy, poetic essence of Isao Takahata's "A Tale of the Princess Kaguya" (1991) seems to come alive. A weary television commercial director grapples with love and career at the age of thirty, uncertain of where life is headed. Accompanied by a free-spirited friend driving her, she embarks on a journey back home to visit family. Her declining parents and eccentric brother feel like strangers; warm childhood memories linger only in her grandmother's withered hands. The carefree innocence of childhood fades with the setting sun, and in the fading light of the blue hour, the shards of her growth flutter like a dream; she reconnects with her spirited self, regains her courage, and embraces a future emerging from the shadows. Awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Neocreators Project.
