"Eastern Boys" tells the story of Eastern European boys on the streets of Paris. The boys, who enter France illegally from countries like Poland, Russia, and Romania, are referred to as "Eastern Boys." Most are newly of age, with the oldest not exceeding 25, wandering around public places like train stations every day. Some approach passersby and offer sexual services, but the consequences can often be unpredictable. The protagonist, Daniel (played by Olivier Rabourdin), is a successful middle-aged white-collar worker who encounters Marek (played by Kirill Emelyanov), a street boy from Ukraine, at Gare du Nord. He is irresistibly drawn to him. After agreeing on a time and price, Daniel awaits Marek's visit at home, only to find himself ensnared in a violent trap...
The film is directed by Robin Campillo, a prominent French filmmaker, whose screenplay for "The Walls Between" won the Palme d'Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. "Eastern Boys" is Campillo's second directorial work. With its poetic visuals and steady narrative, the film tells a unique story of a man and a boy entwined in desire, evolving into mutual support, while also documenting the living conditions of street immigrant youths and illustrating various social issues in France, such as class, age, and wealth disparity. "Eastern Boys" won the Best Film Award in the Horizons section at the 70th Venice Film Festival.
