The film's script ranked second on the 2018 Hollywood "Black List," detailing the true story of Richard Williams, a shrewd, pragmatic, and determined father with no tennis background who raised two tennis prodigies. They later became superstars—Venus Williams and Serena Williams (Big Sis and Little Sis). Richard Williams drafted a 78-page plan for his daughters' professional tennis careers, teaching them the sport on the rundown, overgrown public courts in Compton. Reports suggest that before that, he had confrontations with some young tough guys who disliked the sport and were unwilling to step aside.
