One day in 2012, the elderly Hirayama Shuuji (played by Koji Yakusho) and his wife Tomiko (played by Kazuko Yoshiyuki) traveled to Tokyo. In this bustling and vibrant land live their three children: the eldest son Koichi (played by Masahiko Nishimura) who runs a clinic in the suburbs, their daughter Shizuko (played by Tomoko Nakajima) who operates a hair salon with her husband Kuzo (played by Seizō Fubukigawa), and their second son Shoji (played by Sōta Matsumoto) who works as a Kabuki stage designer. The family hasn’t been together for a long time, naturally filling their hearts with joy. However, their grown-up children are burdened with family responsibilities and are so busy from morning to night making a living that they hardly have time to show their parents around Tokyo. The elderly couple stays briefly at their children's homes and deeply feels their hardships, while Shoji's uncertainty about the future seems to add to the worries of the Hirayama couple. Perhaps everything will be alright; there comes a time to let go. In just a few short days, a myriad of emotions swell in the hearts of the parents, but they don’t have time to express them all…
