In the late 1960s, leftist riots swept through Hong Kong, creating a turbulent situation. Xiaoyu (played by Maggie Cheung) arrives in the metropolis from the countryside as a struggling actress who is willing to do anything for money and to rise in her career. With the help of a director, Xiaoyu moves into a new apartment and accidentally meets Ah Gong (played by Alan Tam), who lives on the rooftop.
