Bobby (played by Sean Penn), a former tennis player, has recently fallen into a string of misfortunes. First, he incurs gambling debts and gets a finger chopped off by a creditor. Then, on his way to Las Vegas to settle his debts, his car breaks down in a remote town called Subio. Little does the incredibly unlucky Bobby know that his bad luck is just beginning. In Subio, Bobby is first extorted by a mechanic who seizes his car; then, he is robbed in a store. To top it all off, while drowning his sorrows at a bar, he's harassed by a young man who wrongly accuses him of having an affair with his girlfriend, leading to a brawl. At that moment, Bobby meets a mysterious beauty, Grace (played by Jennifer Lopez). Just as they're about to have a moment together, they run into Grace's husband, Jack. Unexpectedly, Jack demands that Bobby eliminate Grace! With bizarre events unfolding one after another, where will the utterly confused Bobby end up?
