Oscar-winning screenwriter and director Paolo Sorrentino ("The Great Beauty," "Youth," "The New Pope") sets the story of a boy named Fabietto Schisa against the backdrop of tumultuous 1980s Naples. "The Hand of God" includes unexpected surprises, such as the arrival of football legend Diego Maradona, as well as equally unexpected tragedies. For Fabietto, the wheels of fate have already begun to turn amidst the intertwining of joy and sorrow. Sorrentino returns to his hometown to tell his most personal story, with themes of fate and family, sports and cinema, love and loss.
