In 1970, to compel the military to listen to his speech urging soldiers to restore Japan's former honor and "purity," Japanese right-wing writer Yukio Mishima took General Mashita hostage. However, his speech was met with ridicule from the soldiers. Enraged, Yukio Mishima returned to his home and committed seppuku. The film presents Mishima's life in four parts: (1) Views on truth and beauty; (2) Artistic perspective; (3) Military activities; (4) The unity of sword and pen.
