This film is adapted from the debut novel "Five Point Someone" by Indian bestselling author Chetan Bhagat. Farhan (played by R Madhavan), Raju (played by Sharman Joshi), and Rancho (played by Aamir Khan) are students at the Royal Engineering College, sharing a room and forming a close friendship. In a college known for its strictness, Rancho stands out as an unusual student; he does not memorize information blindly and even openly confronts the principal "Virus" (played by Boman Irani), questioning his teaching methods. He not only encourages Farhan and Raju to bravely pursue their dreams but also persuades the principal's daughter Pia (played by Kareena Kapoor) to leave her money-driven fiancé. Rancho's unconventional behavior angers the model student "Silencer" (played by Omi Vaidya), who challenges Rancho to compete in ten years to see which lifestyle leads to greater success.
