Young woman Caroline (Kate Hudson) is hired by the elderly Violet (Gena Rowlands) to care for her bedridden husband Ben (John Hurt) in their large house, which is located in an area known for its mysterious customs and religious rituals. Caroline feels a sense of foreboding as soon as she arrives. As days pass, she begins to suspect something strange about the house and Violet. By chance, she receives a master key from Violet, which allows her to open all the rooms in the house. When Caroline steps into a hidden room in the attic, she witnesses a horrifying scene and her intuition tells her that Ben's bedridden condition is closely linked to Violet and this room, prompting her to uncover the mystery!
