One day, a defense request comes to lawyer Takamori Takiko (Kikukawa Rei)...Insurance company recruiter, Sumura Satoko (Ishida Hikari), is arrested for the murder of her unemployed husband, Kaneyoshi (Shibukawa Kiyohiko). On the night of the incident, the heavy-drinking Kaneyoshi assaulted his wife Satoko, hitting and kicking her. Satoko claims that she reluctantly resorted to killing her husband to protect their only son, Takashi (Tokita Sotaro), from domestic violence, also known as DV.The case, involving a wife who is a DV victim and an unemployed husband living off her, garnered significant attention regarding women's rights. The request for defense from women's groups advocating for Satoko became a significant opportunity for Takiko to gain honor. With the support of the law firm's director, Kurihara Hidehiko (Terada Nō), who said, “It might be difficult to claim self-defense, but if we aim for extenuating circumstances and get probation, it’s practically a win for me as a lawyer,” Takiko decides to take on the defense of Satoko.Takiko insists on claiming self-defense and aims for an acquittal, but Satoko, on the other hand, straightforwardly acknowledges her guilt in killing her husband and is prepared to accept punishment, only worrying about their son Takashi. However, it is revealed that Kaneyoshi had a mistress. The bar “Mimosa”'s owner, Wakida Shizuyo (Hinagata Akiko), who is a senior at Satoko's high school, was involved in a relationship with Kaneyoshi and is a suspicious figure. Thus begins the trial. The defense lawyer Takiko argues for Satoko's self-defense and innocence, while the prosecution insists on intent to kill.On the day of the verdict, the presiding judge opens his mouth heavily... “The main sentence, the defendant is sentenced to three years in prison. However, the execution of that sentence is suspended for two years from the date this trial is confirmed.” Tears flow from Satoko's eyes. Although it was a trial that resulted in a de facto victory, Takiko reminds Satoko that they can still appeal claiming self-defense and innocence, to which Satoko asks, “Isn't there a double jeopardy principle in court?” And then, considering Takashi, she decides against appealing, stating, “It’s painful to continue this trial any longer. I don’t want to be exposed to others anymore.” With the attention of the public and the soaring reputation of Takiko, discussions about her potential candidacy for the House of Councillors began to surface, hinting at a possible political career. Everyone thought this was the end...However, one day, a phone call rang at Takiko's home. It was a call that heralded an unimaginable, horrific tragedy...
