Substitute teacher Song Wenhua (played by Sun Haiying) works at a remote school that once had hundreds of students and teachers. However, as more people from the countryside went to work in cities, the school became deserted, and Song Wenhua was left as the only teacher still dedicated to his position. As the new semester approached, he went door-to-door to gather students, but only four showed up, from three different grades. Song Wenhua had to teach them in one classroom in turns.
