The first plant of the T Province Machinery Corporation was originally a company that incurred annual losses of 400,000 yuan. In 1983, Cheng Ge signed a two-year contract to run the first plant. After taking office, he implemented bold reforms, enabling the plant to achieve a profit of 2 million yuan within five months. However, by the spring of 1984, factory director Cheng Ge filed a lawsuit against the general company's party committee for abusing power. After the court accepted the case, Chief Judge Guo Gang of the Economic Trial Division took on the trial task. The general company’s party committee was shocked to learn that Cheng Ge had sued and tried to persuade him to withdraw the lawsuit, but Cheng Ge refused. This case appeared simple but involved many aspects, especially since one of the five employees dismissed by Cheng Ge was the brother-in-law of the provincial party secretary. The court president specifically warned Guo Gang, who had been pre-appointed as the next court president by the municipal party committee, to proceed with caution before the hearing, but Guo Gang was determined to judge the case according to the law. After multiple investigations, the court publicly tried the case and ruled in favor of Cheng Ge. However, in the fall of 1985, after the contract expired, Cheng Ge was removed from the position of factory director, and Guo Gang was reassigned to a suburban court for "training".
