The film is adapted from Mohamedou Ould Slahi's memoir "Guantánamo Diary," telling the story of Slahi (played by Tahar Rahim) who is captured by the U.S. government and imprisoned without charges or trial, enduring 14 years of confinement and torture. As he nears hopelessness, Slahi finds help from defense attorney Nancy Hollander (played by Jodie Foster) and her assistant Teri Duncan (played by Shailene Woodley), who together pursue justice against numerous obstacles. Under controversial claims and evidence revealed by Colonel Stuart Couch (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), a shocking conspiracy comes to light.
