In 1990s Wuhan, an ordinary family consists of husband Ma Xuewu (Jiao Gang) who is the factory office director of a state-owned enterprise, and wife Li Baoli (Yan Bingyan) who is a vendor on Han Zheng Street. They also have a son, Xiao Bao (Li Xian). When the company allocated houses, the family moved into a new residence, but unexpected troubles began from the day they moved: husband Ma Xuewu filed for divorce, wife Li Baoli discovered her husband's infidelity, and her homeless mother-in-law wanted to move into the new house. Eventually, under a series of blows, Ma Xuewu chose the path of suicide. Baoli's friend Xiao Jing (Zhao Qian) attributed all the misfortunes to the bad feng shui of the new house, calling it "Heart Pierced by Ten Thousand Arrows." Stubbornly independent, Li Baoli refused to compromise and decided to hold the family together... The film "Heart Pierced by Ten Thousand Arrows" is adapted from the novel of the same name by the famous writer Fang Fang from Wuhan and was nominated for the main competition section at the 25th Tokyo International Film Festival.
