This film is an epic multi-episode widescreen giant produced by the Soviet Union to commemorate the great victory of the Soviet people in the anti-fascist struggle during World War II. The entire film is divided into two parts: "Invasion" and "Typhoon Campaign," with a total of four episodes. In June 1941, fascist Germany concentrated an army of 190 divisions to invade the Soviet Union using blitzkrieg tactics. Due to lack of preparation, the Soviet Union suffered successive defeats in the early stages of the war, with the German army advancing towards Moscow, leading to a life-and-death battle in the city. The film took two years to shoot and cost about six million rubles, featuring grand and spectacular scenes with approximately 5,000 soldiers, nearly 10,000 civilians, 250 actors, and 202 cinematographers participating. This magnificent war film, like several other similar films directed by Ozerov, was shot with strong political purposes under the support of the former Soviet government. The film's promotion of justice overcoming aggression is considered valid today, although some scenes that glorify national leaders are clearly politically motivated. Excluding these political factors, the film's depiction of the macro war scenes is still outstanding.
